COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST


Global Communities (formerly CHF International) is an international development organization whose mission is to be a catalyst for long-lasting positive change in low- and moderate-income communities around the world, helping them to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions.
Global Communities is seeking a Communications Specialist to provide as needed support to the USAID/OPIC Jordan Loan Guarantee Facility (JLGF) program, which is aimed at mobilizing bank financing for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan. 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Implement JLGF’s current communications strategy, and make suggestions for its improvement.
  • Responsible for program branding and marking in accordance with the USAID approved Branding and Marking Plan.
  • Develop social and traditional media outreach campaigns in line with program activities and in accordance with USAID directives.
  • Assist in vendor selection, management, and quality control for procurement of communication materials and services.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of special events across targeted communities and document them through still and video photography and narrative explanation.
  • Develop content for donor and public messaging, publications, and media material and manage dissemination across targeted stakeholders.
  • Manage and file all relevant publications and media, including tapes, newspaper clippings, photos, etc.
  • Assist program staff in completing and compiling reports from a communications perspective.
  • Responsible for leading the production and distribution of all materials to communicate the successes of JLGF and its activities, including but not limited to success stories.
  • Obtain and maintain accurate written records of consents from program beneficiaries to use their names, stories, and images for external communications.
  • Take initiative to drive the output required of JLGF’s communications efforts.
  • Given the nature of the work, the Communications Specialist is expected to be flexible and may be asked to carry out duties which are not specifically listed above.
  • Travel frequently to locations outside of Amman.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of communications and public relations plans and activities.
  • Ability to communicate with people and write their stories in a compelling way.
  • Ability to operate still and video cameras.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced writing skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Capable of working under pressure with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with finance and banking industry is an advantage.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • University degree in Journalism, communication, or related fields.
  • Minimum 4 years work experience in a media/communications/public affairs role.
  • Prior USAID experience is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS  
  • Fluency in written and verbal English and Arabic required.
  • Copy writing skills in both Arabic and English mainly media materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Willingness to travel to JLGF locations outside of Amman in a company vehicle with driver, with occasional overnight stays.
