Program / Department Summary

Globally, Mercy Corps has made a high-level commitment to achieving greater impact through evidence and learning, adaptive management and using data driven evidence to demonstrate results and contribute towards solving complex global challenges. It is in this context that the Information Management Systems (IMS) team for Syria was created. The Data Analyst will play a key role in supporting the newly formed IMS team in developing and adapting complementary information management systems to better understand and track the scope and impact of Mercy Corps’ activities across Syria.

General Position Summary

The Data Analyst will be responsible for integrating data sets from the 3 hubs, ensuring data quality and presenting findings in the form of reports, infographics and dashboards for the Whole of Syria (WoS). The Data Analyst will work closely with the Program teams and Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) unit to determine their needs, uses and specifications of data requests and accordingly provide customized solutions.

Essential Job Responsibilities

TECHNICAL SUPPORT
  • Support the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and program teams to understand their information management needs and strengthen their capacities in data analysis and information management.
  • Supports and contributes to the development of information management systems through documentation, implementation, and coordination of standardized information flows.
  • Support in establishing data quality processes and ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
  • Provide technical support on data collection, cleaning, data management and analysis.
  • Conduct regular trainings for staff and partners and develop user manuals for all core applications and platforms used.
  • Support the IMS team in documenting data processes and flows.
  •   Assess, test and implement new software platforms and assist with strategic decisions on new IM systems.
Data analysis and Outputs
  • Analysis of quantitative and qualitative data received from the field on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Develop user-friendly static and interactive visual analytics and products in the form of charts, infographics, reports and dashboards.
  • Perform ad hoc data extraction and analysis.
  • Support the standardization of data collection and analysis across the hubs.
  •  Carries out any other related tasks relevant to the role as required by the line manager.

Accountability

Reports Directly To: IMS Manager
Works Directly With: IMS Officers, MEL and Program teams

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, IT, computer systems engineering, or other related field
  • 3+ years of experience in reporting and analytics.
  • Experience in working with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience in secondary data analysis.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI or similar)
  • Experience with web APIs (Application Programming Interface).
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Experience in conducting trainings.

Preferred Additional Experience

  • Experience in the humanitarian field is an asset.
  • Experience in Adobe InDesign is an asset.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL is desirable.

S/he will be well organized with an attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple deliverables within short deadlines.
