THE ORGANIZATION:

INTERSOS is an independent Italian non-profit humanitarian organization committed to assist the victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Its activities are based on the principles of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities, and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected people.
INTERSOS has been present in Jordan since 2007, with its main office in Amman and programs of activities all over the country in support of Iraqi refugees. Since 2012 Intersos is partnering with several donors, among which UNICEF, ECHO and OCHA in assisting refugees from Syria and most vulnerable among Jordanian population.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Programme Coordinator provides active support to the development and growth of INTERSOS programming in Jordan, and the coordination within different actions of the overall INTERSOS programme. S/he will support Managers, Advisors and Officers to coordinate and supervise ongoing programming and lead the development of new programme opportunities.

To that end, s/he ensures the monitoring of qualitative and operational aspects of the mission’s programmes. S/he guarantees the effective, efficient and qualitative implementation of all activities. S/he establishes a close technical coordination with the line ministries and other relevant stakeholders. S/he actively supports Managers in seeking for new funding opportunities and in representing the country programs to NGOs, ministries and partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Managers, the Programme Coordinator will be responsible of the following:

  • Supervises no. 3 Field coordinators by defining objectives, providing guidance, monitoring progress as the coordination team member responsible for oversight for all program quality and implementation teams operating in Jordan.
  • Coordinates the implementation and development of all programmes in the country mission and ensures the operational and qualitative aspects of programmes are put into practice properly (monitoring of objectives, respecting due dates and budgetary provisions, quality control, reporting etc.).
  • Ensures data is collected regularly and reports are due on time and with high standards of quality;
  • Contributes to monthly and donors reports and any other reporting mechanisms, according to the Program Managers requests;
  • Ensures that information is efficiently and effectively communicated between and among internal stakeholders across all departments
  • Ensures a ‘programme approach’ is understood and implemented by various colleagues and stakeholders
  • Creates synergies among different actions and advices on ways of implementing activities on a coordinated manner
  • Avoids duplications among the different programmes by communicating with Programme Managers constantly and by advising them on best practices from the different actions
  • Ensures and coordinates INTERSOS representation among partners, donors and different authorities in Jordan (particularly MoPIC, MOSD and MOE), including directly representing the organisation on programmatic matters.
  • Ensures that logistical and administrative procedures are appropriate to the programmatic activities planned or ongoing are established and followed, and communicates relevant information to the other members of the country coordination team as appropriate.
  • Participates in updating the Country Strategy and suggests new operations according to needs identified in the country, and in line with INTERSOS mandate, strategies and priorities;
  • Provides Program Managers with constant and well-grounded advises on the evolving situation, living conditions and gaps of Syrian refugees living in hosting communities and of extremely vulnerable among the Jordanian population
  • Participates to the efforts in raising new funds by approaching potential donors, contributing to the development of new proposal and attending meetings with managers and advisors
Other responsibilities:
  • Uphold the INTERSOS Code of Conduct and policies;
  • Ensure the respect of the core humanitarian principles: neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity and the respect of the “do no harm” principle of humanitarian action.
  • Strictly follow the  internal procedures, policies (PSEA, CPP etc.) and guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social studies, humanitarian actions or any related field;
- Ideally at least 5 years of professional experience as coordinator of humanitarian projects/programmes, preferably in the NGO and humanitarian sector;
- Extensive field experience and an in–depth knowledge of refugee’s assistance issues;
- Proven experience in dealing with community members, local leaders, institutions, ministries and other stakeholders;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities, deadlines and tasks with attention to details;
- Ability to communicate effectively with variety of people, and express oneself in a clear and concise way;
- Strong communication and reporting skills;
- Excellent Arabic spoken and written language skills. Very good ability to communicate and write in English;
- Good command of MS Office packet, including good typing skills;
- Excellent team working skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure;
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills;
- Ability to work under high pressure
