Protection Officer

Job description
Job Title        : Protection Officer
Reports to       : Protection Specialist
Duty Station    : Irbid Field Office, Jordan
Position Type   : Full Time
Key responsibilities:
S/he will be supporting, under the supervision of the Protection Specialist and of the Protection Advisor, the design and technical implementation of protection interventions in Jordan, with specific regards to the protection of Syrian refugees in host communities in the northern governorate of Irbid. S/he will be responsible at field office level for ensuring that quality programmes are conducted and capacities developed to provide the highest standards of protection activities to INTERSOS beneficiaries in Jordan.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the technical design and implementation of protection interventions in the whole INTERSOS’ programme in Jordan, with particular regards to southern governorates of Irbid;
  • Train and support field staff in conducting protection assessments through a specifically tailored tool developed by INTERSOS;
  • Organize and facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) on protection-related topics at community level and ensure that correlative reports are timely handed over;
  • Contribute to baseline studies, assessments and evaluations with regards to protection components and activities (e.g. Protection Monitoring Reports);
  • In coordination with the Protection Specialist and the Protection Advisor, ensure that INTERSOS outreach capacities are strengthened, and clear methodologies for approaching, dealing and working with beneficiaries – in particular, marginalized and underserved communities – are in place;
  • Identify learning and training opportunities relating to protection for INTERSOS staff and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff;
  • Through inductions, trainings and seminars, ensure that basic concepts of general protection, child protection, SGBV and PSEA/CP policies are understood and translated into practise by all colleagues;
  • Participate to coordination and liaison meetings with partners, as requested by supervisor;
  • Participate to the development of high quality concept notes and proposals with regards to protection, and engage with donors’ technical advisers as requested by the Protection Advisor;
  • Provide timely inputs to program and donor reports on protection project activities in compliance with internal requirements and any relevant external donor requirements;
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the Protection Specialist and/or by the Protection Advisor in the framework of the activities foreseen by INTERSOS programs in Jordan.
Job Requirements:
  • University degree in Social Science, Community Development, Psychology, Counselling, Law, Social Work and/or equivalent practical field experience with a humanitarian organisation;
  • Ideally at least four (4) years of experience in protection related sectors, including at least one (1) year of experience in emergency projects;
  • Extensive field experience and an in–depth knowledge of refugees assistance issues;
  • Proven staff training skills and capacities in developing training curricula;
  • Strong communication and reporting skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage efficiently multiple priorities, deadlines and tasks;
  • Excellent organisational, teambuilding and participatory training skills and experience is required, as well as ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to work under high pressure and with flexibility;
  • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with attention to details;
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
