Senior Agricultural Officer


Scope of Work:

The main purpose of the position is, under the guidance of the Livelihoods Program Manager   and Livelihoods Coordinator and to implement key elements of LWF-Jordan livelihoods activities in Irbid Governorate. The livelihoods program aims to increase resilience and livelihood opportunities of targeted beneficiaries and their vulnerable host communities in Irbid. The role will primarily focus on, but not be limited to improving sustainable farming practices with overall purpose of creating employment opportunities for refugees and income generation for Jordanian farmers.

Responsibilities:

Technical Support  
  • Work closely with the main stakeholders, and the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) to implement activities with the beneficiaries.
  • Deliver and/or supervise the training of farmers and their employees in collaboration with Government extension officers.
  • Conduct participatory pre -assessments for crop planning
  • Prepare detailed work plans including training schedules and manuals.
  • Plan, organize and manage the distribution of inputs to the farmers as required.
  • As required carry out or supervise relevant practical field activities such as soil testing, irrigation system installation and improved farming practices.
Project management 
  • Ensure project activities are progressing on time, meeting targets, quality expectations and as per budget.
  • Facilitate positive relationships between the farmers and their employees, especially Syrian refugees.
  • Ensure that employees are fully aware of their rights are these are upheld by their employers.
  • Work closely with the other members of the livelihoods team to achieve the objectives.
  • Produce and submit timely progress reports
Communication and Liaison  
  • Coordinate with the protection and WASH teams as necessary to support the beneficiaries.
  • Carry out monitoring and evaluation activities and assessments with the beneficiaries as required.
  • Represent LWF-Jordan at technical and programmatic meetings and working groups as requested by management.
  • Fulfil other tasks as requested by the Livelihoods Program manager.
Logistics
  • Develop BOQs for inputs as required and guided by MOA regulations and requirements
  • Support the logistics activities in regards to the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the project.
Quality Management
  • Ensure the project(s) are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with LWF, donor, country and international standards i.e. Sphere and HAP standards.

Professional Standards:
  • The LWF and LWF workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the code of Conduct.
Skills, Qualifications, Experience and Attitude Required:
  • Degree in Agricultural Engineering or related technical qualifications with relevant experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in agriculture, livelihoods or community development projects preferably with an NGO or UN agency.
  • Previous experience with training farmers and agriculture extension methodologies.
  • Good awareness of climate smart agriculture (CSA) approaches.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills and ability to foster team spirit.
  • Strong organizational skills and able to coordinate and manage a diverse array of activities and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to live in Irbid governorate.
  • Report writing skills and computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Experience in conducting surveys, managing and analyzing data and statistics.
  • Very good knowledge of Arabic and English both written and oral.
  • Commitment to complete tasks as per deadlines and travel to field sites when required.
  • Commitment to ensuring the protection of refugees.
  • Strong sense of security management and willingness to follow security guidelines and regulations.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and values.
