GENERAL CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is an international independent medical-humanitarian organization, which offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.
The MSF movement is built around 5 operational directorates and supported by 24 associations and other offices together worldwide. MSF OCBA is one of those directorates. The operations are implemented by field teams and the mission coordination teams; together with the organizational units based in Barcelona, Athens, Nairobi, Dakar and Amman. The field operations are guided and supported by Operational Cells, the Emergency Unit and other departments supporting operations.


MSF OCBA has set up its Middle East Unit based in Amman. The Unit comprises the Operational Cell for the Middle East, which manages and supports medical and humanitarian programs in Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Turkey and Yemen; and the Center for Advancement of Humanitarian Medicine, a center of innovation, research and training that will strengthen the operational capacity of medical actors in the Middle East and also host some technical referents.

The Center for Advancement of Humanitarian Medicine will offer the space for MSF staff, staff from national and international NGOs, medics, staff from ministries of health and researchers to gather and work together promoting innovation and collaboration in the field of humanitarian medicine. The Center will develop different types of activities: training, operational research, support to innovation and networking, and will also use the findings and results from all activities for advocacy at all levels. Through these activities, the center will:
 Contribute to develop, in cooperation with other medical and humanitarian actors in the region, new operational models and capacities to respond to medical gaps.
 Create stronger links and new spaces for operational collaboration between MSF and regional actors, allowing all of them to learn from each other.
 Strengthen the capacity of other medical and humanitarian actors to respond to the humanitarian crisis in the region by sharing and exchanging expertise.

PLACE WITHIN THE ORGANISATION
The Medical Document Translator will work under the supervisor of the Head of the Middle East Unit and in close cooperation with the Learning Manager. He/she will also have a coordination role with the colleagues involved in knowledge management, such as Intranet manager, Documentation centre.

JOB ENVIRONMENT AND GENERAL OBJECTIVE
The Medical Document Translator, under the supervisor of the Head of the Middle East Unit, and in close cooperation with the Learning Manager, will be accountable and responsible for providing translation services / support covering a broad range of medical documents and subjects dealt with by the organization including, but not limited to, medical and operational documents, guidelines, standard operating procedures, training materials, reports, formal texts, manuscripts, official correspondence, publications and other materials deemed relevant and useful for the organization and its purpose.
The Medical Document Translator will also be in charge of reading, selecting, prepare and follow a validation process for documents already translated and that require to make available to all staff in the Operational Centre.

RESPONSABILITIES AND ACTIVITY
Translation
 Provides specialized translation prioritised by the Medical and Operational departments and under request of the head of the MEU
 Translates learning material (specialized content, learning needs assessment questionnaires, learning modules, training agendas…) as requested by the learning programme manager.
 Translates material for conferences, workshops or other events, including concept notes, to be held at the Middle East Unit as requested by the Head of the MEU
 Translates material protocols, questionnaires, final versions of reports from English to Arabic.
 Guarantees consistency of language and style used in the translation of material among the different project components.
 Seeks and incorporates feedback from others in relation to translation quality.
Coordination
 Liaises with the CAHM, the medical and operational departments in order to guarantee consistency and quality in the use of Arabic language.
 Proof reading and validation following up the agreed process working on translation of medical and operational guidelines.
 Ensures planning in case of competing priorities.
 Maintains proper filing, posting and making the documents available.
 Keeps track of time dedicated to different projects for accountability purposes.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
 B.A. or B.S. required, preferably in linguistics or translations. ATA or medical interpreter/translator certification a plus
Knowledge
 Fluency in English and Arabic
 First-rate command and comprehension, both written and verbal, of English and Arabic
 Solid knowledge of medical terminology, general medical procedures, diagnoses, treatment and anatomy in target language (Arabic) required
 Excellent knowledge of educational and cultural standards and customs of the Middle East Region to understand different medical terminology, colloquialisms, and slang.
 Advanced knowledge of MS applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) required

 Based in Amman at the Médecins Sans Frontières OCBA decentralised Headquarters
 Commitment: Full time job planned until December 2018 (temporary position )
 Annual gross salary: Based on MSF OCBA reward policy (divided in 12 payments) + secondary benefits.
 Starting date: immediately
